Privacy Policy
Last updated October 2026
Price at the Pump is designed to need as little of your data as possible. There are no accounts, and we don't use cookies, advertising or tracking. This policy explains what data is involved when you use the site and what we do with it.
Who we are
Price at the Pump is run by Postcode Energy Ltd (company number 16883347, registered in England and Wales), 4-4a Blackburn Road, Accrington, BB5 1HD, United Kingdom. We are the controller of the personal data described here. For any privacy question or request, email privacy@postcode.energy.
What we collect and why
Postcodes you search
When you search a postcode, it's sent to our server. We look up its location with postcodes.io and find nearby forecourts. The postcode appears in the page address so you can share or bookmark the search. It isn't sent to other websites when you follow a link, and we don't store it against you.
Your location
If you allow it in your browser, we use your device's location to find forecourts near you. Before it leaves your device, we round it to about 100 metres. We use it to run the search and to find the nearest postcode (again through postcodes.io), and we don't store it. You can refuse or withdraw location access at any time in your browser settings. The site works just as well with a postcode.
Your IP address
Like every website, our servers receive your IP address when you visit. We use it to stop the price search being overloaded by limiting how many searches can come from one address in a minute. The counter is deleted after a couple of minutes. Our hosting provider also keeps short-lived server logs for security and reliability.
Analytics
We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which pages are used. It doesn't use cookies, doesn't identify you and doesn't track you across other websites. We only see aggregated totals.
Error reports
If something goes wrong, an anonymous error report is sent to Sentry so we can fix it. We've configured it not to collect personal data such as IP addresses. A report can include the address of the page you were on, which may contain the postcode you searched.
The map
Map images are loaded by your browser directly from OpenStreetMap's servers. Like any website, they receive your IP address and which part of the map you're viewing. Their use of that data is covered by the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply and to deal with your request.
Our legal basis
We rely on our legitimate interests in providing a fast, reliable and secure fuel price service, and in improving it. We only use your device's location after you've given permission in your browser.
Who we share data with
We don't sell your data. We use these service providers to run the site:
- Vercel: hosting and web analytics
- Upstash: the short-lived counters used to limit searches
- Sentry: error reports
- postcodes.io: postcode and location lookups (made from our server, not your browser)
- OpenStreetMap Foundation: map images
- Supabase: our fuel price database. It holds price data only, not data about you.
We may also disclose data if the law requires it.
International transfers
Some of these providers process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Where they do, we rely on UK adequacy regulations or the UK International Data Transfer Addendum to protect your data.
How long we keep data
Search counters are deleted after a couple of minutes. Server logs and error reports are kept for a limited time (typically up to 90 days) and then deleted. Emails are kept for as long as we need them to deal with your request.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law, you have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to data portability. Because we don't link searches to you, we usually hold little or nothing we can identify you by. To make a request, email privacy@postcode.energy.
Cookies
We don't use cookies. See our cookie policy for the small amount of browser storage the installed app uses.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data, please contact us first. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
